The New Jersey Guide to THC Drinks, Gummies, Chocolates, and Other Edibles (2025)

You’ll find all kinds of edibles in your local dispensary. Today, you can enjoy THC in fizzy drinks, gummies, chocolates, mints, syrups… the list goes on.

If you have no idea what to buy (or what to try next), our experts at Authorized Dealer wrote this guide for you.

Keep reading to learn how to use edibles safely and make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

What Edibles Can You Buy in NJ?

New Jersey’s laws are a little different than other states.

State regulators chose to keep edibles shelf-stable and clearly dosed to avoid products that look too much like regular snacks. You won’t find the classic “space brownie,” but there are plenty of other great options.

Here’s what you can find here in NJ:

THC Gummies and Chews

Gummies are small, flavored candies infused with THC. They’re usually 5 mg or 10 mg each.

Gummies are by far the most popular edibles in New Jersey. Chews and taffy have a similar effect with a softer texture.

These products are easy to dose, portable, and tasty. Some mix THC with CBD or CBN for effects like better sleep or relaxation.

Cannabis Chocolates

Chocolate lovers, these are for you. You can find bars or individual bites infused with THC at many dispensaries.

You can find milk, dark, and specialty chocolates, often made into 5 mg or 10 mg portions. The cannabis flavor is subtle, not too overpowering. You can expect a smooth and gradual effect.

Think of this as your after-dinner dessert… with a twist.

THC-Infused Drinks

THC beverages have become a major trend in New Jersey. You’ll find sparkling waters, seltzers, teas, and tonics with anywhere from 2.5 mg to 10 mg of THC per can.

They’re social, refreshing, and fit right in at gatherings. Many are made with formulas that help THC absorb faster, so effects can start within 30 minutes.

Drinks offer a lighter, more social experience and are a favorite among people replacing alcohol. “California sober” is a vibe.

Mints, Lozenges, and Fast-Acting Edibles

Micro-dosed mints and lozenges are subtle and quick. Each typically has 2.5 mg to 5 mg of THC and dissolves in your mouth for faster absorption.

Because THC enters through your mouth’s lining, these can take effect in 15 to 30 minutes. They’re discreet and perfect for low-key daytime use.

THC Syrups and Mixers

Liquid THC syrups usually come in bottles with measuring caps so you can pour small amounts or mix them into drinks.

A single bottle can contain 100 mg or more of THC. They’re made for experienced users who like to control their dose and flavor.

Whatever you do, always measure carefully.

But Why No Brownies or Cookies?

New Jersey currently bans traditional baked goods like brownies and cookies to prevent confusion with non-cannabis snacks. (You never know who might get into your stash!)

All edibles sold in NJ must be clearly labeled and packaged in approved forms such as gummies, chocolates, syrups, or capsules.

This is about safety, clarity, and responsible presentation. Can’t argue with that, right?

How Do Edibles Work?

Edibles affect your body differently than smoking or vaping because THC is absorbed through your digestive system. However, they can be more discreet and convenient than smoking.

Slower Onset

It can take 30 minutes to 2 hours before you feel the effects. Smoking works within minutes because THC enters your bloodstream directly through your lungs.

Be patient. Taking more too soon is the most common mistake we see.

Longer-Lasting Effects

Once digested, your liver converts THC into a stronger form called 11-hydroxy-THC. The high feels more intense and can last 4 to 8 hours or longer.

This makes edibles great for all-day or evening use, but it also means you need to plan ahead.

Different Kind of High

Edibles often create a body-centered, relaxing high that builds slowly. The experience depends on the dose, your metabolism, and whether you’ve eaten recently.

If smoking is a quick climb, edibles are a steady cruise. Start small, wait, and let it unfold.

Dosage 101: Finding Your Sweet Spot

Everyone is different, so don’t use these guidelines as the end-all-be-all. Here is a good starting point if you’re unsure:

Start Low and Go Slow

For beginners, 2.5 to 5 mg of THC is plenty. Wait at least 90 minutes before taking more.

Intermediate users may prefer 5 to 15 mg, but even regular smokers should be cautious. Edibles metabolize differently, so tolerance doesn’t always translate.

Don’t Rush It

If you don’t feel anything after half an hour, resist the urge to redose. Wait at least two hours before adding another small amount.

High-Potency Products

High-dose items (100 mg or more per package) are for experienced consumers only. For most recreational users, 5 to 20 mg total is ideal for a calm, enjoyable high.

Choosing the Right Edible

Here’s a recap on types of edibles:

  • Gummies and Chews: The easiest and most common choice. Sweet, consistent, and easy to carry.
  • Chocolates: Rich and relaxing. Perfect for evenings or a gourmet dessert.
  • THC Drinks: Great for social settings or replacing alcohol. Quicker onset and shorter duration.
  • Mints and Lozenges: Discreet and gentle. Ideal for microdosing or daytime use.
  • Syrups and Mixers: Flexible and potent. Perfect for experienced users who like to customize their experience.
